What is GIA?
Gävle Innovation Arena is the natural result and continuation of great initiatives in Sweden and around the world. The collabs contribute with different components in terms of: resources, perspectives and functionality. The collabs create an inspiring, productive and collaborative environment to promote, create and produce research solutions and innovations. All for the benefit of the future smart, sustainable and viable city.
What is a Collab?
'Collab' is short for 'Collaboration' and are the partners in the Arena that are adding components to the arena for others to use and leverage from. As an example the collabs provide data, system development environments and other tools.
What is the geographical data zone?
In this case it is a geographic zone mirroring the reality testbed. This is a data lake where the goal is that all data that can be geotagged to the specific zone can be added, used and shared by the Gävle innovation community members. The intention is that the geographical data zone should expand and deepen as the arena members and collabs are developing the arena.
How do I access the data?
When you become a member or collab in the arena, you will have access to the data in the geographical data zone.
What kind of data do I get access to?
In the geographical data zone you will find:
- Open (usually free) geographical data
- Commercialized geographical data from governments and various organizations, free of charge for research and innovation
- Upon your research and development approval, confidential data
What is unique?
The existence of a one-stop shop for all data that usually is only available from each organization and separate source makes GIA unique. This concentration of data furthermore enhances the possibilities for innovation based on the tools available such as ArcGIS, 4DX and more. For every day, more and more data and new resources adds to GIA which makes it a living testbed for all kinds of ideas, research and new thinking. In addition, organisations and authorities can use the arena to post real challenges that will have a positive impact on the organisation if it is solved.

You think you can do something great with all these data and want to test and verify what could be possible.
You want to not only test an idea - you want to create a company, product or a service for the future based on geographical driven data.
Is all data free to access?
The geodata and the commercialized data is free to use in the Gävle Innovation Arena for innovation- development or research projects. When your product or service is ready for the market, you sign a special agreement with each data owner.
How do I start a project?
When you register on the website, the service operations manager for Gävle Innovation Arena will contact you and you get the help you need to start a project.
How do I publish a challenge?
It´s only the Collabs that can publish a challenge. For more information contact the service operations manager of GIA.
How do I accept a challenge?
Register and access to the code, data and information from the challenge owner. When you have signed in, you can use the tools which are included in the membership.

How to be a Collab?
Contact the service operations manager and discuss how you can join the Collab team. Remember that the Collab is working for the agenda 2030 goals and specific number 3, 5 and 11.
How to be a member?
Become a member by registering an account on the website. It will give you access to all the tools, data, the challenges and the community. The membership for private individuals and researchers are for free and you can easily get an account on the website. This allows access to read all cases and access to development tools with open data.
Who can join the arena?
This is an open arena for researchers, innovators and related organizations - both non-profit and for-profit. The tools and resources are suitable for both a novice and more experienced person.
